Rick is one of our most experienced trainers. He has a military background and now teaches self defence, boxing and kickboxing. As well as all this Rick finds his zen by practicing and teaching yoga. Being an expert in all of these disciplines makes Rick one of our top personal trainers. He has the ability to adapt to the many different needs an individual has to get in shape.
How do you measure your clients success?
By the goals they set themselves. I then adapt these so that we can specifically measure progress, taking them away from a broad goal of “get fit” or to “stay in shape”. I then try to change the mindset to “I can do this”. I enjoy shaping a client so that they know they can achieve more in their goals. The most important thing is to have fun, if you’re laughing you will forget all about the exercise.
How do you like to train yourself?
I mix things up a lot at present, I’m doing a lot of work with amputee yoga for the Invictus Games and Para Triathlon events so a lot of my personal time is developing new programs for them. However I cross train with my own sessions using body weight and endurance exercises.
What do you do for fun?
Believe it or not it’s traveling, hot yoga and salsa dancing.
What is your favourite instagram account to follow?
Take a look at the stories from @IAmInvictus. Most people have nothing to complain about after that!
What do you like to eat for breakfast?
Either oats prepared the day before if I’m on the go from early doors. If I have a bit more time it’s got to be a Spanish omelette.
What is your top tip to exercise around a busy schedule?
Give me 10 mins a day you can achieve great things. Most of it is 99% mental get over that and you are there. I put in some serious hours with the projects I am running and always find ways to train around work and play. Just remember to have fun and smile. If you don’t suffer the small changes now you will pay for it later, you only have one life so look after it!
